Virginia - Day off

Wow Each day that passes I fell more blessed with what life offers me "Ask and you shall receive..."

I had been biking for a good 4.5 hrs this past Saturday, and it was around 3:30pm, I was completing the general quote of 60 miles a day. The sky was getting darker by the minute I had been ridding harder than usual as the storm front from the south had been introduced by very powerful winds, people advised me that it was going to be followed by heavy rain storm, which it did indeed.
I told myself (intented) that I would be ok and would find some shelter within another 7 miles down the road. I continued bike turning off my rational mind, and letting my intuition take over. I then found my perfect match 7 miler down the road, making Making a long detailed story short, they (Jarry and Elizabeth) took me in like their a old friend. They offered me a shower, food, shelter, internet and above all their friendship, what else could I possibly need... Later I decided to stay for the following day as my day off. I went to the early service at their church and made lots of connection, plus hung out for the afternoon with some of their friends, Alfredo, Laura and little Santiago. The gave me tour of the area, ate wild oysters from the area and met their friends from Colombia - Jaime and Liliana.
Jarry also arranged for an interview with the local news paper, so I'll be posting a link to it when it come out...
Take good care everyone, and remember that we can manifest what we think. so think good things :-)

Rainy morning in Maryland

My night in Maryland was a nice one, I woke up in my tent to the sound of rain and it felt really good to have my first rainy morning. I was so exited I recorded a little video:

Somers Point, NJ to Milford, Delaware

Todoay's trip was spli into 2 parts, I left in the morning from Gail's home in Somers Point and flew down to Cape May, 34 miles in 1:45min. There I had to wait for for the ferry that only departed at 2:30pm, so I only arrived at Lewes, DE at 4pm. The second part was also 1:45min and I rode hard 29 miles to Suzie's house in Milford.

This morning I was out biking at 6:50am cause they needed to go to work early. so here I am at Comfort Inn, having a coffee and updating the blog, as all the staff are really nice... Enjoy these pictures!!

Pine Beach to Somers Point NJ

After leaving June's house this morning I was flying by New Jersey's Marsh Land. I found out recently that NJ is kinda the Newfoundland of US, some call it the arm-pit of New York. I beg to differ, I found NJ to be quite nice and friendly, I met some really hospitable people here. When the route 9 joined with the express way for a few miles, I met with Lee, who went out of his way to top up my tires with air and with his pickup drove across the bridge So I could keep going on route 9. Thanks Lee.

Arriving in Ocean City I ended up in the city building and met with Gail, who generously offered me her home that is undergoing some renovation before she moves in. There I even go to take a bath. Gail also hooked me up with her cousin in Delaware which I'll be riding on after I get of the Cape May – Lewes Ferry.

Brooklyn - Pine Beach, NJ

So leaving the big city was easier than I hard thought, I had a nice bike ride across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan and went to the Wall Street Pier. There I found out about a ferry across to the Highlands, the small town on New Jersey, straight south of Brooklyn. So there I was in the great ferry and I met Alexis Houston, an RMB singer songwriter, who invited me to her house for a snack and served me fresh tomatoes from her garden, thanks :-)
Than I left and headed southbound right on the shore line, and for the first time on this trip did I feel the Atlantic, the smell on salt in the air a fresh breeze, really soothed my spirit... Some time I was even riding on the board walk. when I started to scout the area for a patch of grass to set up camp, I walked in the local library where I met June that invited me to her home in Pine Beach. So after another 10 miles, I got there and met her Husband, Doug. They took me in like their own son, treated me for dinner and gave a room to sleep in... thank you!
I'm always blessed with great people and great attitude that help me along the way.

NEW YORK CITY!

Yesterday marked the end of the beginning of this huge odyssey. I arrived in New York City, 907km/563miles from Toronto during 10 cycling days. Biking across Manhattan and into Brooklin to Spicer & Boyda's home in Prospect Park West. It was jouney of over 2 hours hauling the fully loaded bike down the busy NYC streets, including Broadway. I felt good!!! I plan to stay here for a few resting days in this lovely Brooklyn flat with two dear friends.

Please remember if you want to receive new from my blog on you email, click on the link at the top right corner of this page!

This shot was taken by Gina D'Amico. I met her and Kevin just as I had crossed the GW Bridge to Manhattan. Thanks Gina!

I'll be in touch!

Monticello - Stoney Point, NY

Monticello was the only place I slept indoor of all these days and after a frustrating evening of getting lost it was well received. The next day for lunch still on the 17k near Montgomery
I intuitively turned into this drive way, and met Ed Weber, nice new found friend who amongst many other thing, has a bunch of been hives an makes his own honey, he gave me some and lots of tomatoes and Chinese chestnut. it turns out he has some bikes that he would be willing to donate to BWB in the future...

After lunch I had a nice ride down through Hwy 218, it was a very nice road to ride on, with a lush forest and rockside of the mountain view of the Hudson river...

Walton - Monticello, NY

As I got up (7am) this Morning the town on Walton was inundated by fog. and in was hard to see beyond 20m away.

By the time I got on the road to climb the daring Bear Spring mountain I found it in me ascend 342 meters in 45 minutes, and there I was at the highest peak of my path to NYC. The ride was going great the Day finding my self at the next town over on HWY 206, Downsville. I stopped at a local heath food store, where I stay for 3hrs, drinking coffee and using their internet to up date the blog.
By the time I got on the road again in was past 2pm, and the sky was getting dark with rain clouds. After crossing the beautiful Catskill Park I had a hard time and stopped for direction more time that I can count wit one hand and for a bit had to ride on the interstate route 17, not a pleasant ride. eventually finding my way near Monticello and meeting Carlos, how offered his house for me to stay the night, gave direction to get there and all the, but I got lost, several times and was forced to ride after dark, I was exhausted and only found his place at 7:30, well after sunset... Carlos was very generous and let me sleep in his basement...
I learned that I should NEVER trade biking time for blogging time...

Witney's Point to Walton, NY

This was for sure the toughest day so far...

For those of you who have driven across the Appalachian mountains before, you know what I'm talking about, it is a huge scale road roller coaster. Now all you have to do is add the human powered bike factor, and there you have it...

Arriving in Walton I had no place to stay, did not meet any friendly peeps, so I talked with a cop and he directed me to a place near the police station. This is where I am know... tomorrow rise and shine, I'll be climbing the Bear Spring Mountain (699m), into Downsville and hopefully cross Catskill Park

New York city here I come.
